The smell of solder, code, and a south wind
We're from here, from Necochea, and we love connecting the digital world with the physical one. There is something magical about writing a line of code and watching the hardware come alive on the other side. Estación Necochea is exactly that: our first big step into the Internet of Things, a project that made us step away from the screens, pick up the soldering irons, and get our hands dirty.
The engine behind the project: Magic&Logic
None of this appeared overnight. Behind the station is the Magic&Logic team. Our story started in the classrooms of the UTN, and with time and a lot of work we became a proudly local software factory. We build software (SaaS) and IoT, literally writing code with a view of the sea. Day to day we make management systems for shops and companies, but with this weather station we wanted to go further: put that experience into a project of our own, made in our city, showing that from here you can innovate with first-rate technology.
How we built it: from the protoboard into the weather
R-101 and R-102
We assembled this network from scratch. Hours putting ESP32 boards together, wiring BME280 and SHT31 modules to read the weather, and adding LDR sensors and Hall-effect magnetic sensors. Building it in the lab was only half the work. We spent whole days calibrating the embedded software so the telemetry stayed exact and on-site processing didn't overload the hardware. The real challenge wasn't that it worked once on a desk, but that it would hold up out there. So we also drew the plans from scratch and modeled every custom case and mount for 3D printing. Each enclosure had to protect the hardware perfectly, standing up to the weather, the wind, and our coastal climate.
Our cloud, our data
We wanted to own the whole cycle. So the station syncs in real time, with minimal latency, straight to our cloud on Google Cloud. Having the hardware, the firmware, and the cloud under one roof gives us remarkable stability.
Watching the boards update on their own every day is a huge point of pride. Estación Necochea is not only technology. It is software and hardware made by hand, from our city up to the cloud.
